Gold for a very long
time and still now
is an excellent material
for restoring teeth.
New porcelains and
tooth coloured composite
filling materials are
proving to be strong
competitors but for
proven durability
gold is still the premier
material.
We
use gold as an inlay
to repair/replace
large fillings that
need something stronger.
Gold crowns may be
advised on posterior
teeth where the closeness
of the bite and/or
short height of the
teeth mean that there
is not enough space
for a bonded crown
with porcelain and
metal. Individuals
with a very strong
bite may also require
the strength of gold
restorations.
They
can look beautiful,
much better than
a dark amalgam filling.
The soft warm yellow
tones of gold merge
much better with
the surrounding tissues
and slight yellowness
of the teeth. The
secret is not to
make them too shiny!
