Dental implants are
essentially a
small rod of
high purity titanium
alloy inserted
into the bone
of the jaw and
left to heal.
Bone loves
titanium
and attaches
itself
intimately
to the
surface
of the implant.
The dental implant
replaces
the root
of the
missing tooth.
Implants
are an excellent
way of replacing
missing teeth
or fixing dentures
in place.
They may
be used
for a single
tooth or
for a full
mouth reconstruction
utilising
the support
of several
implants.
Using implants
allows
us to avoid
involving
other teeth
when
replacing the
missing ones.
Our dental implant centre in Exeter is based on more than sixteen years
experience of
placing implants
and we see
many patients
on referral
from our
colleagues
in other
practices.
Dental implants are
not "new". They have been evolving
for the
last thirty
years and
have greatly
increased
in popularity
over the
last ten
years, particularly
in the last
five years.
